DuPont de Nemours, an American chemical company, has announced its plan to split into three separate publicly traded companies. The company intends to spin off its electronics and water businesses into their own unnamed entities in a tax-free transaction for shareholders. The breakup is expected to be completed within the next 18 to 24 months, pending final approval by DuPont’s board of directors. Additionally, a leadership shakeup will occur, with the CFO, Lori Koch, assuming the CEO role. The current CEO, Ed Breen, will transition to the role of executive chairman. The rationale behind the breakup is to allow the smaller companies increased flexibility and agility. This move follows a trend of other multinational companies opting for smaller, more nimble entities. DuPont had previously undergone a breakup in 2019, resulting in three separate entities: DuPont, Dow Chemical, and Corteva. The newly formed electronics company will focus on semiconductor solutions, while the water company aims to provide comprehensive water solutions. The remaining divisions will be retained under the DuPont name.
