The summer box office is off to a slow start. Last summer, blockbusters ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ brought in almost a billion dollars to the domestic box office. However, this year, studios are relying on a range of mid-range sequels and prequels, as well as animated family films, to fill the gap. The ongoing writers and actors’ strikes have also impacted the industry, contributing to a rocky start for the summer season. Analysts predict a 20% to 25% decline in box office grosses compared to last year.
