The Nordstrom family is considering taking the department store private and has formed a special committee to evaluate bids. This is not the first time the family has attempted to take the company private, as a deal in 2017 fell through. The retail industry’s changing landscape and brands focusing on sales outside of wholesale channels add uncertainty to the future of department stores. The independent committee will evaluate offers from the Nordstrom brothers and external parties to determine what is in the best interest of the company and its owners. The department store cautioned that there is no guarantee a deal will be approved.
