OpenAI's Sam Altman vows to give away most of his wealth through the Giving Pledge
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and his husband have joined the Giving Pledge, a charity that encourages wealthy individuals to donate their fortunes to philanthropic causes. In a statement released on Tuesday, Altman and his spouse expressed gratitude for the opportunities they have had and vowed to give back to society. Altman’s wealth is estimated to be around $2 billion, primarily from his investments in startups. The Giving Pledge, initiated in 2010 by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates, encourages billionaires to commit to donating at least half of their wealth to charity. It currently has over 245 participants from 30 countries. As part of her divorce agreement, Melinda French Gates will be donating $1 billion to support women’s rights through her organization, Pivotal Ventures. She recently resigned from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
