After a long wait, the United States won a silver medal in Olympic artistic swimming on Wednesday at the Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, France. This is the first time that the U.S. has reached the Olympic podium in artistic swimming since winning bronze at the 2004 Athens Games. Russia had dominated the event in recent years but was not able to participate in the Paris Olympics. China won the gold medal, while Spain took home the bronze. The U.S. team’s viral routine to Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” gained attention and they took high-risk elements to achieve success.
