SoftBank Group subsidiary Arm plans to launch artificial intelligence (AI) chips next year. Arm, in which SoftBank has a 90% stake, will establish an AI chip unit and aims to have a prototype ready by spring 2025. SoftBank is in discussions with contract manufacturers, including Taiwan’s TSMC, for production, with mass production set to begin in fall 2025. Arm’s AI chip business could potentially be spun off and placed under SoftBank once a mass-production system is established. Arm’s shares have risen approximately 45% this year, with a market capitalization exceeding $113 billion.
